Reviewer: Paul G Schreiber 27-Mar-09Comment: My first visit to Baja C was in 1958, and my relationship to the Peninsula can be termed an ongoing love affair. As of 1970 Ray Cannon, with his edition of The Sea of Cortez - Sunset, became my guide and eventually the Commodore of, and guide to the travel club Vagabundos del Mar. I joined the club in the nineties in the hope of sharing what I love most; camping on quiet beaches, 4 wheel travel, and fishing from small boats. With time The "Vags" had drifted generally towards RV'ing, and it was their hope along with mine to provide this traditional service to a certain interested membership. I began to guide specialty trips that fit the bill. I am fluent in Spanish, have many old friends in Mexico, and the trips became a success as cultural experiences as well. They were free of charge. It all came to a crashing halt when internal politics overtook a good thing, and when the undermining of my guide authority infringed on my ability to take responsibility for the events. I confronted the club leadership in open exchange, and my continuation with the club became a consequential impossibility. I am very fond of the club, and still love what it once stood for and could stand for again, but caution potential members that in my experience this non-profit organization has a high grade internal politics problem that tends to haunt the genre in general.
